St. Luke’s Academy is one of many local Swindon schools to host workshops from Owen’s World, a local charity providing a series of knife crime intervention workshops. The Owen’s World Foundation was set up in memory of Owen Dunn, who was fatally stabbed in 2022.
This is the third year in a row that Owen’s World has visited St. Luke’s Academy - a secondary special school for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs - to speak with students from years 7-11.
With a focus on early prevention, education, and behaviour change, the workshops targeted important issues around knife-related crime, aiming to equip students with the tools and knowledge to make safer choices, both now and in the future.
Sessions included:
- Impactful real-life stories and case studies
- Group discussions around fear, peer dynamics, and difficult moral dilemmas
- Interactive activities exploring the ripple effect of violence on communities
- Straight-talking information on the law, joint enterprise, and stop-and-search
Students asked insightful questions, listened respectfully, and engaged meaningfully in some very tough conversations.
Owen’s World praised students at St. Luke’s Academy for being an “absolute credit to the school.”
Mr Green, Associate Principal at St. Luke’s Academy, part of The White Horse Federation, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of the way our students responded to these workshops. Their thoughtful participation proved that even the hardest topics can lead to the most important learning.’
“A huge thank you to Owen’s World for delivering such an impactful intervention and helping us build a stronger, safer future for our students.”
